DOME AND WINGS added to
the Capitol in the 1850's and 1860's brought the structure to the form
so familiar today. This 1871 lithograph, hand colored, pictures it dominating
a tree-dotted city from atop Jenkins Hill. The Washington Monument, incorrectly
shown with capstone and round base, actually was not completed until 1884.
The road on the right
is Pennsylvania Ave, the path taken on the Grand Review. They marched away
from the capital and angle right. It was at that corner the last picture
was taken.
