Drawings and Sketches
by Russell Scott
I took the human figure drawing class at a community education class at Como Senior High in Roseville,
Minnesota. The instructor has taught human figure drawing classes serveral times and has been commissioned
many times to draw for many clients. The course took eight weeks to accomplish.
At the beginning of each class we would draw action posses where the model would stay still for only
30 seconds. After several action poses, we moved on to longer poses using pencils. Most of these lasted
approximately 20 minutes so that we could work more on details.
I continued my learning experience in human figure drawing when I purchased the Virtual Pose series books.
I also use images from clothing catalog sites with posed models as subjects to draw from. Since models require
fees to pose, I tried to make due with what’s available.

One reason for my desire to draw was to understand the human form so that I could produce magnificant
wood carvings.
