Near Atlanta, Ga. August 23, 1864
To Adjutant Gen. Gaylord Madison, Wisconsin
Sir:
This is to certify that Anton Holzschue, a private of my company, has always been present with my command with the exception of a term from July 1st, 1863 to November 7th, 1863, he being then a prisoner of war and confined at Richmond, Va. His father Martin Holzschue, in town Centerville Manitowac County, being old and solely dependent on said Anton Holzcheu, complains of not receiving the promised state aid to soldiers familys, since last August (1863), which he would kindly request your to alter.
I am Sir,
Respectfully
Wm. Steinmeyer Capt.
