Stafford C.H. Virg., December 22nd, 1862
H. Lindeman
Esq.,
In regard to Frederick Baer, alias Behrend, who enlisted with me
under the first mentioned name on the 30th day of June, 1862, I
have to make the following statement:
Yours truly,
Wisconsin Historical Society, 1200 Series, Box 128, Correspondence 1862-1863
Said Frederick Baer was left behind on our march from Milwaukee
to Washington in the City of Baltimore on the 11th day of
October, 1862, and the Regiment has never since heard from him,
although the Provost Marshall of said city was duly informed and
requested to send him back to the Regt. He will therefore be
considered a deserter, though some other Regiment may have
picked him up and kept.
A. Ligowsky
Capt. Co. D. 26th
Regt. Wis. Vol.
