Sir:
I have the honor to report that I have this day discharged from the service of the United States, pursuant to instructions form War Department, A. G. O., dated September 20th, 1870, and Paragraph X, Special Orders No. X, current series, Headquarters Department of the Lakes, the following named enlisted men:
Nicholas Kiefer, Private "E" 26th Wis. Infty. Vols.
Descriptive list furnished
form the A. G. O. reportes him as follows:- born in Germany, Age 23, occupation
Laborer, blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion and 5 ft. and 4 1/2 in
height. Enlisted August 15th 1862 at Fond du Lac, Wis., by Anton Keffler,
for 3 years. Was mustered, who serve Sept. 7th 1862, at Milwaukee, Wis.
By J. M. Trowbridge. Was last paid by Major Taggart to Dec. 31st 1863.
Bounty paid $25, due $75. No record of clothing.
Dishonorably discharged
with loss of all pay, bounty and allowances to date, July 18th 1864, date
of his desertion.
